Since we moved to Freiburg, Germany, over 2 years ago now, I have been pondering the best way to move forward in my work. Starting fresh in a new country has many challenges, but it also has many benefits. It has forced me to look at English Muffin and make conscious choices about what is working and what is not. I have the ability to press pause, to step back and ask myself, what do I want to do? How can I do what I'm doing better, more efficiently? And, how much of my day do I want to devote to working and how much to my family? I think these are really important questions, questions that in the thick of it we rarely have the opportunity to ask. Thank goodness we had to put all our stuff in storage and move half way around the world, because I think I've come up with some good answers!
The biggest and best change to English Muffin will be the addition of my beautiful, talented and energetic little sister, Chelsea. The core of English Muffin's customers are based in North America and Chelsea has agreed to come on board to manage things on that side of the Atlantic. So, when you place your English Muffin order you'll be corresponding with Chelsea, and receiving your goods from her lovely home in the Muskoka woods. Chelsea and I will work together to keep our customers happy, continue to deliver beautifully designed, high quality prints and bring exciting new things into the shop (she's already pitched some great ideas!).
English Muffin has been a solo venture for me since it began, back in 2008. It has grown with me, moved with me, gotten married with me, welcomed new little people into the world with me, given me many opportunities and presented me with many challenges. I feel so fortunate to have been at the helm, steering this little company through the world over the last eight years. There have however been many things that I just couldn't do on my own. Times when I've had too many balls up in the air and not enough hands to catch them, too many hats to wear and my favourite one, the artist hat, was the one I wore the least.
I am really looking forward to this new chapter at English Muffin with my sister by my side. It will be wonderful to have a partner to share everything with, business decisions, creative ideas, product brainstorming and my most favourite, shipping orders!
